Who we are
Matthew Chlastawa- Project Manager
Born from a Puerto Rican mother and Polish father in Western Massachusetts, I have always enjoyed the fluidity of responding to Matthew and Mateo, eating pierogis and pasteles, and listening to great music in both English and Spanish.
This cultural crossover can be seen in my participation on the Puerto Rico National Men’s Lacrosse Team, the coqui tattoo on my arm, and profound desire to use my unique position and skills to help the island thrive.
I hold a BA in Rhetorical Theory and Criticism from Bates College, an MBA in Management with a focus in Global Strategy, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship from Fairfield University, and two full years as a 9th grade English teacher on the Texas-Mexico border.
Most recently, I have completed my NABCEP PV Associates Certification in an effort to face the challenges and opportunities Puerto Rico faces with regard to energy sovereignty.
Given that I am a cultural Sato (mutt/mixed breed) who is a member of the Puerto Rican Diaspora, any work I do in the cross-cultural environment of Puerto Rico is part and parcel of Desarrollo Diaspora.
